Line Cook
The Washington Commanders are searching for a Full-time Temporary Line Cook to join our team for the 2025 Offseason Program. Come work at Commanders’ practice facility in Ashburn, VA and assist the kitchen in preparing meals for the players, coaches, and staff on the team. Utilize our state-of-the-art kitchen including top of the line grill, plancha, brick oven, woks, smoker, circulators, as well as the latest in high-end equipment to explore and have fun with.
Employment runs from May 5th – July 31st, 2025
40 hours a week with possible overtime
Core Responsibilities
1. Cooking Operations
a. Oversee a station on the line for breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner.
i. Prepare all proteins, starches, vegetables, sauces, & garnishes for the station each day.
b. Write a daily prep list for tasks needed to complete.
c. Ensure all food items are prepared with the highest quality in mind and taste all necessary sauces, starches, vegetables, and proteins before service for quality assurance.
d. Assist in putting away deliveries and make sure storage areas remain organized and clean.
e. Follow all safety, sanitary, and food handling procedures and ensure the kitchen is held to the highest possible standards of food safety.
f. Ensure that all food preparation equipment is being used safely and correctly and that each are cleaned and maintained correctly.
g. Assist executive chef, sous chef(s), line cooks, prep cooks, and dishwashers in all aspects to ensure proper standards are upheld leading up to and during all meals.
h. Become familiar with every station for breakfast/lunch/dinner and fill in when needed.
2. Menu Creating
a. Assist executive chef, sous chef(s), and cooks in creating weekly menus for breakfast, lunch and/or dinner main entrée, pasta, stir fry, salad, and pizza stations.
b. Keep a journal for all new techniques/dishes/ideas.
c. Bring innovative ideas and techniques to the table when creating dishes.
d. Keep a nutritionally balanced mindset when creating dishes.
e. Stay up to date on new trends in the industry and research new ideas and recipes to constantly evolve the menus.
f. Create and write recipes for new menu items.
3. Miscellaneous
a. Read and respond to all necessary emails.
b. Stay up to date on all trainings, seminars, meetings, and proceedings.
c. Show eagerness to grow individually and with the team.
d. Listen and engage in employee feedback.
e. Support and encourage all coworkers and promote an environment suitable for growth from top to bottom.
f. Bring a positive attitude and a can-do spirit!
Qualifications
1. Strong cooking background and sound foundation in classic cooking techniques
a. Familiar with protein butchery, stocks, sauces, and protein, starch & vegetable cookery
2. 2+ years of foodservice experience
3. Strong communication skills
4. Strong attention to detail
5. Experience in scratch-cooking kitchens
6. Fine dining experience preferred
7. Bachelors or culinary degree preferred
