Indian Creek Correctional Center in Chesapeake, VA is hiring an Adult Education Instructor to deliver instruction in Adult Basic Education (ABE) and GED preparation. This position focuses on supporting learners in achieving educational milestones while ensuring compliance with state education standards.
Salary & Employment Details:
- Hiring Range: $62,643 – $89,521 per year
- State Role Title: Trainer and Instructor II (29112)

Job Responsibilities:
- Provide ABE and GED instruction tailored to student needs.
- Develop and implement lesson plans that align with Commonwealth of Virginia education standards.
- Facilitate one-on-one and classroom instruction across multiple subjects.
- Track student progress, maintain accurate records, and support assessment preparation.
- Supervise classroom operations and provide guidance to assigned inmate aides.
- Utilize educational technology and literacy software as part of instruction.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Adult Education, Special Education, or a relevant educational field.
- Teaching experience: Either 2,000 hours in the past five years or two years of recent relevant experience in adult education.
- Virginia Teaching License Eligibility: Must meet requirements set by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE).
- Experience in adult education and knowledge of applicable policies and procedures.
Additional Considerations:
- Master’s degree in an applicable field.
- Experience teaching in adult education or alternative education settings.
- Familiarity with correctional facility classroom environments and policies.
Licensing Requirements:
Applicants must be eligible for a Virginia teaching license and, if not already licensed, are required to:
- Submit required documentation for a provisional license within 90 days of employment.
- Obtain a provisional license within the first year to maintain employment.
